Anthropic has released Claude Opus 5

Opus 5 is designed for everyday coding, knowledge work, and long, multi-step agentic tasks. It has become the default model in Claude Max and the most powerful model in Claude Pro. The API price is $5 per million input tokens and $25 per million output tokens, the same as Opus 4.8. Anthropic says that Opus 5 approaches Fable 5 in quality at roughly half the cost per completed task. At the same time, it is weaker than Mythos 5 at turning discovered vulnerabilities into working exploits. The benchmark advantages mainly come from Anthropic itself and early-access partners, so they still require independent verification. Alongside the model, two beta features were released: the ability to change the set of available tools directly during a conversation without losing the prompt cache, and automatic fallback to another model if the safety classifier blocks a request.

OpenAI Prepares Foundry Platform

OpenAI was quietly preparing Foundry, a new platform designed to let large customers run its AI models on dedicated computing capacity. The service was expected to provide greater control over model configuration, performance, versioning and scaling, along with dedicated support and uptime commitments. Pricing was aimed at large enterprises: running a lightweight version of GPT-3.5 was reportedly expected to cost $78,000 for three months or $264,000 for one year. Documentation also referenced a model with a 32,000-token context window, fueling speculation that it could be related to the upcoming GPT-4. The Planet on fire

This evening at 4:55pm CDT in our H1 data center, electrical gear shorted, creating an explosion and fire that knocked down three walls surrounding our electrical equipment room. Thankfully, no one was injured. In addition, no customer servers were damaged or lost. We have just been allowed into the building to physically inspect the damage. Early indications are that the short was in a high-volume wire conduit. We were not allowed to activate our backup generator plan based on instructions from the fire department. This is a significant outage, impacting approximately 9,000 servers and 7,500 customers. All members of our support team are in, and all vendors who supply us with data center equipment are on site. Our initial assessment, although early, points to being able to have some service restored by mid-afternoon on Sunday. Rest assured we are working around the clock. We are in the process of communicating with all affected customers. we are planning to post updates every hour via our forum and in our customer portal. Our interactive voice response system is updating customers as well. There is no impact in any of our other five data centers. I am sorry that this accident has occurred and I apologize for the impact.

WordPress 1.0.1 “Miles Davis” Release Available

The WordPress team has released WordPress 1.0.1, the latest version of the open-source blogging platform. The new release, named “Miles”, includes a number of bug fixes and improvements following the release of WordPress 1.0 earlier this month. Developers have also continued to improve the administration interface and overall stability of the system. WordPress is a PHP and MySQL-based publishing platform designed to make it easy for users to create and manage their own weblogs.
